In 1990, Dallas VA Medical Center introduced the
first Comprehensive Homeless Center (CHC) in VA,
which helps mentally and physically ill homeless
veterans rejoin the community as productive
citizens.

Our Geriatrics & Extended Care Program provides
quality care through an interdisciplinary approach
to appropriate geriatric and long term care veterans
while remaining committed to the four-fold mission
of the VA. This is accomplished at VA North Texas
Health Care System through the following Geriatric
and Long Term Care Programs: Geriatric Evaluation
and Management Unit (GEM), Home Based Primary Care (HBPC),
Nursing Home Care Unit (NHCU), and Transitional Care

The mental health services at the VA North Texas
Health Care System serves veterans with emotional
disorders in the Dallas/Forth Worth/Bonham areas.
Our programs are designed to promote mental health
and wellness in the least restrictive treatment

Our pharmacy processes more than 6,000 prescriptions
daily. Prescriptions may be refilled by mail, phone,

We have a Dallas VA team of
highly trained experts who blend unmatched
experience with advanced technology. We have new
treatments in the art and science of rehab medicine.
With a caring spirit, we offer new hope for veterans

Our team of expert doctors, nurses and therapists in
Physical Medicine & Rehab work side by side with the
veteran, Social Worker, Speech and Language
Pathologist, Vision Specialist, Recreation
Therapist, Neuropsychologist, Prosthetist/Orthotist,
and a Vocational Rehab Specialist.

Line offers an extensive range of treatment
modalities with emphasis on health care prevention.

Recreation Therapy Service provides therapeutic
recreational activities, leisure education and
recreation participation in order to rehabilitate,
restore and remediate cognitive, physical,
behavioral and social deficits. These activities are
provided for veterans in a safe and fun environment
which promotes wellness from a holistic view. We
offer Fitness groups, Horticulture Therapy,
Leisure/Life Skills, Aquatic Therapy, Sporting

rehabilitative services which can help them overcome
